oxygen is transported through the body through the blood, which moves through our veins and delivers oxygen to all the cells in our body, helping them do the jobs they need to do.
normally, you breathe in about 16 or 17 times in one minute— if someone is breathing way faster than this, or way slower, it might be a cause for concern
if a person stops breathing, we need to do something called artificial respiration
artificial means "a made process by humans" and respiration means breathing
this means, sometimes we have to use our body to make another person breathe
situations we may have to do this in include: electrocution, drowning, gas poisoning, or choking among many other situations
drowning- how to prevent it
don't swim alone, swim somewhere supervised by lifeguards, don't swim when you're tired, don't swim in super deep water
if drowning occurs near the shore, hold something out that a person can grab onto— a long branch, a broomstick, or a towel. don't get in the water yourself, as you could both go under.
if a person is not breathing, first check if they have a heartbeat. if they do not, then start CPR. if the victim has a heartbeat, begin artificial respiration, and call 911
how to do it- tilt the patient's head back to open up their airway, and then breathe into their mouth. it is best if you have a mask when doing this, a picture of it is shown here. breathe normally into their mouth, at a regular rate of about 16-17 times a minute.
